Answering my own question --- I found this FREE 200+ page book to be quite 
useful.  It's about Neo4j and not OrientDB but has lots of good information 
and trying to read the Neo4j syntax will make you thank your lucky stars 
that you're using OrientDB...

You just enter your email address and receive a link to download the book 
in .mobi, .pdf, etc.
