>>>a RID is made of two numbers (a short and a long, at this stage, but the
first one will become a long too in next releases, it's in the radmap).

I want to be clear on the RID size in bits and the new size in upcoming
releases:

The RID reminds me of the old segment:offset pairing that was used to
extend 16 bits for 32 bit addressibility on 16-bit computers so the
cluster:offset offers the same concept.

Currently clusters max out at 32K meaning that it is only 16-bit in length.
You state that it is going to a "long". What does that mean in size. Is
the cluster portion of the RID going to be extended to 32 bits or to 64
bits? The offset is currently 64-bits and I presume that is not changing.

This means currently the RID length is 80 bits. Is the new RID size being
extended to 96-bits or 128 bits?

Thanks,
Chris.
