It sounds like to me, as long as I leave E alone, I can always create lightweight edges with it. As soon as I add properties to E, I am forcing heavyweight edges on my whole database, which wouldn't be smart, from what I gather. If I also leave E alone, and only add properties of subclasses of E, then I can work with both heavy and lightweight edges.
