Hi guys , Honestly speaking that is "holy war" kind of discussion .
I never engage in such one, because even if you answer why you will receive many observations why you are not right, the only reason why I did this that is because our CEO engaged in this discussion. BTW I am author of current storage engine, but I have joined team when all high level decisions were made. And everything below is* my personal opinion*. I may assure you that the same product with the same quality may be implemented in million of different ways, and feature of the product depends not on how it is implemented in details. But how brilliant is team of developers which implements it. So I think that from users perspective there are much more important factors like usability, performance, stability, level of support. Good example. I have many years of experience on Java but never in my life I noticed direct relation between fact that Java compiles everything in byte code and system performance. I mean that if I noticed performance issue or performance improvement I have never said to myself "yeah that is because they use byte code" .
