I believe this part of the docs explains clusters and nodes properly. You can have nodes with different clusters of a class. But, you can't have different classes in the same cluster. In other words, clusters are groups of records that belong to a certain class only. So, you can't mix and match clusters to different classes. You can, however, mix and match clusters to different nodes.
