I'd expect David Lister to have the definitive answer. I think that the "Hiden Senbazuru Orikata" is believed to be the oldest Japanese Origami book of Rokoan style connected cranes in 1797. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thousand_origami_cranes Google the phrase for lots of pictures of pages from the original book. However, I believe that Papiroflexia and Origami were influenced from the Chinese origins around the same time, so I'd expect to see Spanish diagrams ( of the pajarita?) to be as old... I don't know anything about Arab designs. http://www.origami-resource-center.com/history-of-origami.html http://www.britishorigami.info/academic/lister/errors.php - Hank Simon
