. I have over 800
books and I'm tired of buying duplicates because I can't remember whether I
already own the book!
Anyone any ideas or suggestions.

For me, to keep from purchasing duplicates, I use Dennis Walker's Database,
and occasionally print it out, as the notes I've added are getting messy. I
just ordered sometime like 25 books, most in the 2 - 3 -4 dollar range,
although several were 20+, and I am sooooo waiting for the DB to be back up. I
don't have a smart phone or handheld device, so the DB is what I rely upon.
(Thanks, Dennis) I had begun to make my own database, until I got the internet
and found Dennis. I wonder if, should I have a device to which it could be
done, if 'My Library', from the DB could be downloaded?
It really would be handy to have my list on my phone, as I don't usually take
my 17 page printout with me. I could print on both sides, but I use the back
sides to hand write in additions, and then add them to the database, when able.
As to duplicates, I have donated many of them, and make sure that when I take
books with me to a teaching, I take duplicates (just incase a book sprouts
wings or legs).
I have 700+books, so I can relate to Faye's difficulty.
I would see a book cover, or read a title and think I had/didn't have it. For
example, surprisingly, a few years ago, I discovered that I did not have
Brilliant Origami by Brill, so I had to go search for it at a reasonable price.
With my last book spree (my birthday is later this month, so I justified it),
I kept checking my last print out, and the book shelves.
Hopefully, this time around, nothing is a duplicate.
