Has any of you folded origami models using Tyvek paper? What comments do
you have?
-------------------------
As to having folded with Tyvek, I can answer my one experience. I was teaching
origami for a week, and on Friday night we were to do a performance. I really
like the message in Fold Your Wings and Fly.
http://www.amazon.com/Spread-Your-Wings-Fly-Fold-And-Tell/dp/0966289218 The
book was read to them, when we learned to fold the flapping bird and then the
crane. I let them make them the final decision, but I gently guided them to
use this book as the basis of the performance. One student was chosen to read
it, and the others to fold each step. Summer in the midwest with humidity,
kids not used to folding, and performing, paper could be a disaster. I
obtained envelopes from the Post Office that were no longer being used. The
kids cut them open, and into squares (that a true learning experience) and
folded. Then permanent magic markers were used to decorate and personalize.
What is great about Tyvek is its lack of ripping. Repeated
practicing only enforced the steps but the creases, and low and behold at the
end, all the birds did spread their wing and fly!
