The next day I tried it in acetate paper and it worked perfectly well
during the rest of the week! It has an excellent locking mechanism that
seems to never open by accident.
I found the diagrams for that model in "Origami you can use" by Rick Beech.

tomorrow I will check out the diagram, as I have the book, but what is acetate
paper? Does it have another name? or what is it otherwise used for? or am I
just not thinking? my McGuyver-ness is gone tonight - asthma is acting up (at
least that is my reasoning for now)
