I don't know if this has been mentioned before. Apologies if it has... In the first season of House of Cards (US version) origami is seen on several episodes...
Ep6 when Claire gives a homeless man $20, he returns the money to her, folded up as an origami swan. Ep7 Claire's experience w the homeless man returning her money, gets her started on learning how to fold some basic models. She's shown learning the crane from video instructions on her iPad. Later on she meets some kids who've apparently been taught origami at school. Towards the end of the episode, Francis, her husband, asks, "is this a new hobby?", to which she responds, "no, it's just an interest." Ep11 or Ep12 Claire goes to meet an old lover (who's a photographer) & when she finally decides to leave him & return to Francis, she folds a swan from one of the large photographic prints he has in his studio. Altho origami isn't a central theme to this show, it was cool seeing it in such a public & positive light. As a side note, the show is amazing, and worth a looksee just to know the politicking that goes on in Washington DC. The show's motto is 'bad, for the greater good' begins to indicate the intricate & myriad ways power & money & compromise intersect... Happy folding, Vishakha .
