A super-ordinary closed-back square twist is the foundation for this study. Each twist body has been pulled up and elaborated into a Yoshizawa butterfly ... which is highly unusual in an origami tessellation. I am usually content for the repeat cell to be an abstract geometric shape... not a bona-fide representational model.
Here is an uber-traditional Rokoan-style piece, with a modern subject, and no cuts! https://plus.google.com/115624021374660826601/posts/1SoawRSZqkR With best wishes, Galen T. Pickett https://www.etsy.com/shop/GeometricOrigami
