Hi Everyone, Dianne wrote: "One square no cuts no glue seems to be the traditional definition of Origami someone decided upon at some point in time. I have not read no tools...but always made the assumption no tools were to be used."
A classic article on the definition of origami was written back in the late 1970's by the British paper folder and theoretician, John S Smith. It was originally published in the Magazine of the British Origami Society and is archived on the BOS site: http://www.britishorigami.info/academic/jonsmif.php It's as relevant today as it was then, and both timeless and of its time. Here's an open question to the List: What is *your* Profile Diagram and why? John suggests eight ways in which we can diverge from 'Pure Origami'. Do you think that in 2014, we can now add others? Best wishes, Paul Jackson
