Thanks to the recent problems with the Yahoo and AOL settings, we have
had to change some of the ways the O-list works internally.

As of this message, the list removes all information about the author
of a message, and substitutes the list address for the author's
address. (We are very sorry if this breaks any filters or other
similar structures you have set up for the list.) This effectively
makes posts anonymous.

Now, this is a bit of a bummer, since folks don't tend to behave very
well in truly anonymous discussions. So we regret that we must add a
new message format requirement, namely:

You must sign your mail with your email address (and your human
name, if you wish.)

Failure to do this will result in your account being moderated, and
you'll get a message from me reminding you of it. If your account is
already moderated, the message will be bounced back to you. (The
system calls this a "rejection." Do not take it personally, it's not a
statement on the value of the message!)

We're hoping this will be temporary, but it's the best we can come up
with on short notice while dealing with all the fallout from this
problem.

Thanks for your attention!

P.S. Anyone who has experience administering - or at least
power-using - online forum systems, especially any that are
bbs-forum/email hybrids, please consider writing up a short review of
your experience. But DON'T SEND IT ANYWHERE YET - I'm still swamped,
thanks to this mess. Fair to say we'd consider moving to some other
system as long as it still allows members who only want to interact
via email, to do so. Don't just say "make the O-list a Facebook
page/Twitter feed/Pinterest page" as that doesn't cut it; we still
believer there is value in a discussion component that can be
participated in via mail in some meaningful way!
