Hello fellow folders, I would like to invite you all to Surface to Structure: Folded Forms, an origami exhibition that I am curating from June 19th through July 4th in New York City. This exhibition is free of charge and open to the public. It features more than 80 contemporary artists from 5 continents including Bernie Peyton, Giang Dinh, David Brill, Nguyen Hung Cuong, Brian Chan, Paolo Bascetta, Joel Cooper, Eric Joisel, and many others.
Surface to Structure will be located at The Cooper Union, 41 Cooper Square, New York, NY, 10003. Cooper Union was also the site of the 1959 exhibition Plane Geometry and Fancy Figures, the first origami exhibition in the United States. Surface to Structure will display a small number of pieces from the artists of the original 1959 exhibition as well as contemporary pieces that push the boundaries of this artform beyond its traditional perceptions. This is a large project, and my team and I are looking to crowdfund this exhibition. We have an Indiegogo campaign up, which can be found here: https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/surface-to-structure-folded-forms#home Any and all donations will be met with great enthusiasm. Please help us spread the word to anyone you think might be interested in attending or donating to our campaign. If you can’t donate, we still hope to see you at Surface to Structure. The exhibition will be open for the duration of this year’s origami convention, so if you’re in town for the convention, stop on by. Thanks, Uyen Nguyen [email protected]
