I would call it "pretty much the way I approach everything I design." To
me, every specific technique -- grafting, point-splitting, circle-packing,
tree theory, box-pleating, polygon packing, Origamizer, conic section
optics, and more, are different cases of "taking general ideas but not
specific parts." So maybe "the Ur-method" would be a good name?
