With regards to Vishwas Deval's inquiry, here are my ideas.
Mission statement for an Origami Club
To foster creativity, discipline and logic via handmade paper arts. To promote
communication, broad vision
and joy. To enjoy unification via diversity.
(1) Creativity, discipline and logic are corner stones of Origami. By using the
words,
"paper arts" it emphasizes the artistic and inclusive aspects of "Origami".
Something
that probably started as a pure fun activity, should not get bogged down with
exact
definitions, and procedures. On the other hand, we don't want to go so far
afield that
a machine folded object will also be called "Origami", and hence the words
"handmade".
If we create "Origami folding robots" in the future, I will consider it an
application
of Origami rather than Origami itself.
(2) Communication via diagrams is also a major, valuable aspect of Origami. All
art
is about communication and in Origami, it is achieved via the use of symbolic
language.
The fact that mathematics is also a symbolic language, is a side benefit. The
fact
that it is different from usual means of communication, broadens the vision of
the
artist and the patron alike.
(3) In the end, it is all about joy that is accessible to ALL, young and old,
rich and poor,
across all cultures, languages and regions. This common thread among such
diversity,
provides the unification of human experience.
