Hi all,

By now, I'm sure you've heard of the incredibly successful 6OSME meeting in
Tokyo last month. Origami and its applications has truly become a legitimate
field of study, research, engineering, design, art, and educational tool!
And I think we've probably hit "critical mass" with the OSME meetings; for
the last couple of times, there have been multiple groups interested in
putting one on, and there's already interest from multiple groups in putting
on the next one, 7OSME, to be in 2018.

In order to provide an orderly process for deciding where upcoming OSMEs
will be and to assist in providing consistency and passing on best practices
from event to event, organizers from all of the past OSME programs have
formed a steering committee to help guide future OSMEs and have written up a
guidelines/call for proposals for hosting the next OSME meeting. In the
past, there hasn't always been a clear process for deciding this; the reason
for setting the committee and guidelines is to make sure that the process is
clear and open, to give any team that is interested a fair shot.

So, if you or your origami or technical organization is interested in
hosting 7OSME in 2018, please visit the OSME.info website:

http://osme.info

and download the "guidelines" document, which describes what's expected and
what you should put in a proposal. (You can also download a description of
the steering committee and who's on it.)

Proposals are due by December 31, 2014, with a goal of making a decision by
February 28, 2015, which should give plenty of time to then go put the thing
on. You don't need to submit a proposal till the end of the year, but if
you're thinking about proposing, it would be nice to give the steering
committee a heads-up of your intent, by sending an email to [email protected].

And I'll look forward to seeing you all at 7OSME, if not sooner!

Best regards,

Robert J. Lang
