I have researched this and can confirm that as far as is known it was first
discovered by Robert E Neale in about 1965. Kunihiko Kasahara discovered it
for himself shortly thereafter but I understand that he has acknowledged
Bob's primacy.

I knew Joe had also discovered it ... in the early 1970's I think? ... but
it's good to hear the full story.

I have recently had email contact with an architect from the US who had also
discovered it for himself in the early 1970's and has developed it into a
larger theory of rigid but collapsible structures. Yet to be published, I
believe.
