First off, I should note that I first learned origami from Video - well TV.
Before PBS, there was the National Educational Television (NET). In November
1960, the Chicago NET station ran an eight week half hour show on making
origami. Real low budget but effective. They had two cameras, medium distance
and close-up. There was one Japanese gentleman teaching. I had one read a
report of a folder from Schenectady, New York who started the same way.
I agree with Sara, I will learn a model that I desire by what ever teaching
method is available: diagrams, video, person or step folds. I am blessed that
there are many folders that I come in contact with every month.
I recognize that there are many levels of quality in all teaching forms:
diagrams, video, person or step folds. I think that there are many origami
books published just to make a quick buck without proper regard for quality
diagrams. I have heard cases where reputable authors have been ignored to get a
book out quickly.
I am not that tech savvy so I will have to explore updating the viewing system
for You Tube videos. I will need some clear time. I have to prepare for Origami
Sunday, Origami Heaven and OrigamiMIT in the next few weeks. That makes five
weekends in a row with origami activity for me and Arlene.
A small side note: I thought that the modern diagram notations were a
combinations of Harbin, Randlett and Yoshisawa .
