Hi Folders, We need your help! We have achieved 87% of our IndieGoGo campaign goal, but there are only 55 hours left to raise the remaining $1400. Like the Surface to Structure exhibition, this project will be far more successful with your timely support. Plus, we’re offering incentives as "thank-you's" for donating. Please click here to see the perks offered for various donation levels: (igg.me/at/vogel) and please share this project with your friends.
As origami lovers, we want the public to view origami with the same appreciation and enthusiasm as we do. The efforts of many bring us ever closer to that reality through things like the Between the Folds documentary, Project Connect, the Origami for Children’s Hospitals GoFundMe, Surface to Structure, and numerous other exhibitions and public outreach programs. While VOGEL may not seem to directly impact as large an audience, it too carries potential to affect global perceptions of origami through atypical channels. Surface to Structure: Folded Forms focused primarily on the artistic aspects of origami - the works were autotelic. VOGEL is not pure origami for origami’s sake, but instead uses the folding art as a technique to achieve desired functionality in the garments' structure and influence their aesthetic appeal. The folding patterns implemented for VOGEL are derived from my research at Cornell University's Laboratory of Atomic and Solid State Physics. Cornell University published a great article about it here: ( http://www.news.cornell.edu/stories/2015/08/fashion-origami-turns-function-form). VOGEL uniquely links fashion and science together using origami thereby fostering innovation in both disciplines. Because of this, supporting VOGEL helps origami penetrate both the fashion and science fields. I’d personally like VOGEL to be one piece of the much broader story of origami, enhancing the narrative and helping to mold how the world sees origami as this great art form continues to evolve. Please help me add another building block to origami’s amazing story by supporting VOGEL. igg.me/at/vogel Sincerest Thanks, Uyen Nguyen (WinWin)
