Hi Clare, In respect of your question ‘Is there any way to get BOS Booklets apart from Amazon?’ The reason for this question I understand is that you would prefer not to shop with Amazon.
Firstly I apologies for the delay in replying, as I have only just noticed your post. The short answer to your question is NO. But Amazons involvement is slightly more complex than may appear and depends upon your particular issue with Amazon and or their partners / subsidiaries and independent printers who do jobs for Amazon. Therefore The best I can do is give you the facts as I understand them and you can make up your own mind. The print on demand (POD) books by the British Origami Society are available from various versions of Amazon worldwide. Books ordered from Amazonm.com (the USA branch of Amazon) are I understand printed by Createspace (an Amazon company). if you order from Amazon in the UK or Europe, I understand a third-party printer will print your books in the UK or EU. In both cases Amazon handle distribution. Createspace was used to make the books available as a POD. Createspace were an independent company who where bought up by Amazon, and was made a free service for authors/publishers to make books available as POD. https://www.createspace.com/AboutUs.jsp;jsessionid=758E5F3B93E90DD48B0831BAA321D217.a8d60fb8ef1fa4387cde4b1bc9cb1dca <https://www.createspace.com/AboutUs.jsp;jsessionid=758E5F3B93E90DD48B0831BAA321D217.a8d60fb8ef1fa4387cde4b1bc9cb1dca> Even if the book is printed by a third party printer they are obviously linked to Amazon as a business partnership. Incidentally Createspace was chosen because they are the only print on demand company that offer both a shop window to the world, international distribution in the member states country in their own currency and local printing for customers in their country. Therefore to some degree the production of POD versions of BOS books are linked to the Amazon range of companies to some degree, even if it is though a third party printer who do printing jobs for Amazon if ordered outside the USA and Amazon will arrange delivery through UPS etc. The ebook versions of the books are deployed in house and are available from BOS supplies. A full listing of BOS print on demand books and ebooks is also now available from the London Origami books page. http://www.britishorigami.info/society/meetings/london/londonorigami_newsletter/Books.html <http://www.britishorigami.info/society/meetings/london/londonorigami_newsletter/Books.html> Paul Hanson British Origami Society Publications Officer
