The Monthly origami challenge on the Origami Forum has had constant entries
for over 10 years. In March of 2010 an artist named Beth Moore Johnson
submitted a folded Acorn and a pine cone and was declared the winner of the
challenge. Today her work is exhibited at the Morton Arboretum in a recent
version of the acorn created with her assistance with Kevin Box as a metal
sculpture for “Origami in the Garden”. In the next few months thousands of
people will walk past this sculpture.

Here are links to her original entry and as it appears today (My photo from the
Morton Arboretum)

Other winners of this monthly challenge include artists that have been featured
in origami conventions around the world including Dr. Stephen O’Hanlon who
started the challenge, Jon Tucker who has been a featured folder at Centerfold,
Sebastian Limit who has won 7 of these challenges, Victoria Serova whose
fantastic mask of Baba Yaga that beat out masks of Barak Obama and Lincoln to
win a challenge, Brian Chan for his well known representation of Iron Man,
Andrey Ermkov who started the Olympic Origami challenge, Hubert Villeneuve for
5 exquisite entries and one of my favorite folders Quentin Trollip who is a
featured folder from Canada.

I would like to celebrate ten years of this folding challenge by encouraging as
many people as possible to enter the challenge for the Month of June. You must
share an on line picture of an original creation that has not been shown before
.

I will try to make this as easy as possible for anyone to submit an entry. The
topic for June is:
“Pick a Winner” – Look over the more than 100 topics covered by this challenge
and pick any topic you find interesting. You can probably fold anything you
want and there will be a matching topic. You will find two lists that show all
the topics at the beginning of the Forum on origami (see the link above)

Here is a list of the topics for the past 10 years (in two separate lists –

As to rules, I will let you define your own rules of folding so go ahead use
any material, number of sheets, method of folding, and if you must you can even
cut. If you enter, please state what rules you followed in making your creation.

If you are not a member of the Origami Forum, send me an on-line link and I
will enter the challenge for you.

Even if you do not plan to enter please look over the past entries for this
challenge and comment on your favorite folds, who has the most wins, and who
has the best multiple entries, or even who bent the rules the most by folding
with odd materials (hmm – that last one sound like me).
