Zooming in on the picture that shows them the closest, and looking at the object closest to the person, which is the one that I get the clearest view of, I'm guessing it's a crane. The wings are folded out flat, not curved.
Whichever it is, the picture is reminiscent of a famous woodcut, I don't remember if it's by Hokusai or someone else, but I think most of us have seen it somewhere sometime. I first saw it many years ago.
