Hi everyone, As some of you may know, some time ago I created a Facebook group focused on Origami Publications. It has had limited success, but I still think it is a useful initiative, at least for some of us ( *https://www.facebook.com/groups/origamipublications/ <https://www.facebook.com/groups/origamipublications/>* ). In my view, the future of the web is participatory (Socials) rather than static and centralised as the traditional websites are. It is for this reason that I created that OrigamiPublications FB group, on a social platform. Moreover, I strongly believe that nowadays the winning mode is the ‘push’ mode, i.e. contents that reach you through various channels (e.g. FB notifications), as opposed to the ‘pull’ mode of traditional websites (content that you have to go and search for).
For all of the above, I believe that the origami community currently lacks a place for information about events and meetings (be they conventions, local meetings, in person or online), exhibitions and events in general, hosted on a social network, with content shared as push notifications, and especially open to specific discussion and information exchange. A few examples to give you an idea of what I mean. Let's take the Event "Origami Swiss Convention 2025" created on this Page and let's say I'm going to attend. Then I can post a comment: "I would like to attend the next Origami Swiss Convention... is there anyone who would share in Geneva an apartment with me and share the cost?" Or let's take the CDO convention in December, and let's say I'm going to land in Milan and I want to share a rental car, or I want to meet origamists before the convention... I live in Europe, and have only recently started attending smaller events (as opposed to large origami conventions) that I didn't know before, and I am extremely happy with them. Had I known about it earlier, I would have attended much earlier. I am still not aware of the many zoom events that are held... events that I would gladly attend, but which I regularly miss, having a pretty busy life and no push-like ‘reminder’ for them. I imagine, therefore, that many origamists are still unaware of what goes on in person in the countries where they live (and in neighbouring countries /states) and also unaware of online events. For this purpose I created a FB page where the organisers of Conventions, local Meetings and online Meetings, Exhibitions and events in general, can freely create an event (in that Page's Calendar), which would reach as a notification to all those who follow the page. I am well aware that this might be a useless thing, in which case I will be the first to close the page after a while, no problem. For now, I'll give it a try, see how it goes. If you want to contribute, you can ‘like’ the page and, if you are an event organiser (of any kind), create the event yourself. Besides, it's practically the first FB page I've created, so please be forgiving of everything. I'm learning. *https://www.facebook.com/OrigamiHappenings/ <https://www.facebook.com/OrigamiHappenings/>* (OrigamiEvents was taken, so 'Happenings' is what sounds the best alternative to me... but I'm not satisfacted by that, so just let me know if you have any better alternative name) Lorenzo -- Lorenzo Lucioni Duesseldorf - Germany lorenzo.luci...@gmail.com
