I likely posted this option before.

The A4 (√2 rectangle ) shape is very special.  You first cut the maximum √2
rectangle from a square.  Then you can cut 2 small squares from the
remaining long rectangle. The leftover paper is a smaller (√2) rectangle.
Using this way you can make 2 small squares and 1 large  √2 rectangle and 1
small  √2 rectangle.without waste.
