Yes, the original ones all required glue.
The one you include here  is a variation.
But if you plan to actually use it, glue is required.  Though tabs fit into pockets of each piece, there is no way to lock them.
When you open these boxes there is nothing that holds them into place. So glue is actually needed for the model to be of any use, and even just to open and view.
