Because the server terminates the current session when the log in fails,
this situation did not occur, in contrast to what I feared above.

I have implemented this anyway, to catch cases where the log in succeeds
and then the client somehow decides to start a new session before
completing the old one.

It is done without truly overlapping sessions, by starting the engine a
second time in a reduced "read-only" mode just to parse the incoming
message and extract the client's device ID.
