BTW, what OS do you guys run on the Altix? Is it a 2.4-based kernel andWe currently ship our own 2.4-based OS, which is based on rhel3 (SGI Advanced Linux Environment, or SALE). Since we ship our own OS, we can patch the kernel as heavily as we need in order for it to boot our hardware. We currently boot the 2.6-based fc3 devel as well as sles9 out of the box, and are transitioning to the latter for the OS that will ship to customers. We do not need to patch most versions of the 2.6 kernel for it to boot on Altix. Basically, until we can get a 2.6-based sis and a supported 2.6-based OS then it isn't realistic to port OSCAR to Altix. I will be monitoring the project and contributing when I feel it makes sense so that OSCAR supports Altix as soon as possible. Thanks for your time.
then you upgrade to 2.6 kernel or is it a stock 2.6 kernel?
John,
Can you boot a DIG kernel? If so, that would be the correct solution. I don't know what type of kernel SI is currently using for IA64, but a DIG kernel is the appropriate kernel for its purpose.
