The thing that concerns me is that we have one set of Maui RPMs for i386, regardless of distro.
I didn't finish this thought before sending the mail. :-)
Which distro / kernel were the Maui RPM's compiled for? I'm trying to run them on FC2 with kernel 2.6.5-1.358.
I think we actually need an overhaul of the RPM selection system (and making the distribution tarball). Right now, we're basing it on distro, but this may not be enough -- kernel version may also need to be included in this criteria. Granted, we can only target a few cookie-cutter kinds of systems (e.g., why we installing OSCAR *before* running updates), but I think we can do better at it than we currently do. More specifically, I'd like to see the choice of which RPM(s) to use to be made at "make dist" time and we make system-specific tarballs.
My $0.02 (and clearly for after 4.0).
