Hi Jeff: I think this is a good idea - we should definitely add this to our roadmap - potentially 5.0 if not sooner.

This definitely calls for a consensus for the naming of the distro directories, eg. fc2, mdk10, rhel3, etc. - perhaps we can write up a proposal for this in 4.2 including an agreement to what the naming scheme is. DepMan and UpdateRPMs will also need to use this new 'distro lib' as I believe they have their own distro recognizer code.
