On MDK 10.0, it seems that "man" and friends are not installed out on the nodes. So my default-manpath modulefile was barfing because it assumed that /etc/man.config existed. I have updated the RPM to not assume this (and it no longer causes Fernando's problems) and am waiting to commit for pri 9 on this bug.
