Nope -- that's the CVS way (it's definitely one thing long-time CVS users have to get used to): "svn up" does *NOT* tell you about local modifications. "svn status" does.

I think I backed out those changes (whatever they were) but I am not
totally sure.

I haven't seen another commit yet, but it could be the mailing list is being slow...?

Run "svn status" and see if your changes are still outstanding in your local checkout.
