Summary: ancient mpich version & rpms missing

Initial Comment:
The MPICH version in branch-4-2 is ancient (1.2.5.10).
IMO it should be updated to the latest 1.2 version
before release of 4.2.

Besides: RPMs for rhel3 are missing, the artifact RPMs
from the packages/mpich/RPMS subdirectory lead to
failure of the "MPICH (via Torque)" test:

/usr/bin/ld: skipping
incompatible /opt/mpich-1.2.5.10-ch_p4-gcc/lib/libmpich.a
when searching for -lmpich
/usr/bin/ld: cannot find -lmpich
collect2: ld returned 1 exit status

Merged from trunk to branch (r3609).

Mandriva RPM need to be rebuilt, they are missing!
(Actually the old mdk9 ones are still there, but the mpich-devel
won't be installed any more, as it has been included into
mpich-1.2.7-1 now.)

Fixed in trunk r3583 and r3584.
RPMs for mpich 1.2.7 need to be built for fedora and mdk,
the rest is done.

Please raise this to priority 9. It will have to be fixed for 4.2
in some way or another.

As said in the first posting: RHEL3 RPMs are missing
completely. The installer picks up the old crap from RPMS/. I
will delete that.

The issue is not that we are missing the RPMs, but that a
user who runs his application with 1.2.6/7 will not use
OSCAR if we only deliver 1.2.5.10. This needs an update in
the first place, then we can rebuild the RPMs.

Erich, which arch did you test this on? I noticed that
there are no x86_64 RPMs available for RHEL3 (only i586 and
ia64 RPMs available in rh80 directory).

I attempted to update it to 1.2.7 but ran into some issues
previously. This needs to be fixed such that it works with
RHEL3 - have you tried the RPMs from RHEL4? Did they work?

This needs to be verified, as it must have worked with older
update versions.
