Hello Bernard,

Sorry for the delay in getting back.

I've been doing background work for creating the hpl package. I'm learning about rpm packaging format and also quite close to creating the hpl rpm. Also I'm trying to understand the hpl tuning parameters and come up with a generic default parameter set that will give reasonable numbers on most cluster confugurations.

Another issue concerning me is the choice of the BLAS libraries(prerequisite for hpl) that we intend to use with hpl. Is there any BLAS library package available for OSCAR? Or is someone currently working on any?
I'm digging up lot of information on the various choices available like Atlas, GOTO, Scalapack etc. Among the alternatives, Goto libraries give the best performance on most platforms as can be seen from the results at http://www.ncsa.uiuc.edu/UserInfo/Perf/BLAS/ . Also, as we may need support on different hardware, ATLAS may be the alternative to go as it optimizes itself for the specific architecture. But Atlas takes a long time to install. Also on the surface, creating an Atlas rpm is complicated. At this moment, I'm inclining towards Goto libraries but doubtful about it's licensing options. I will get in touch with the developer of Goto and will keep you updated.

Finally, is there any test box available for testing how the packages integrate into the OSCAR framework? It's ok if I have to find one, but just thought I would ask first before setting one up :).

Please let me know if you have any suggestions/comments.

Thanks,
Sarat.

P.S.: BTW, my research group is acquiring a small cluster and I'm responsible for the primary planning & benchmarking that cluster. Hence the delay for the response.

Hi Sarat:

I was wondering if you had any progress in this - we would really like to include this package in future releases.

If you need help, you know where to ask.

Thanks,

Bernard

Subject: Re: [Oscar-devel] Performance Analysis tools for OSCAR

Thanks for the input. I would also like to hear what everyone else think about creating a HPL package.
I would also like to get some feedback on the need for performance tools targeting applications. I'm requesting feedback since I want to ensure that whatever I do will be useful to the broader community.

Can someone direct me to resources on creating a OSCAR package?

Thanks for your time,
Sarat.
