The new SystemImager (3.5.4) has a "virtual console" which will display some 
console messages on the headnode via the si_monitortk GUI during image deployment.

I'm testing it right now and will put it in trunk once it is stabilized.

I agree with David, this doesn't work without additional hardware (or IPMI SoL). We're using terminal servers, and of course OSCAR could provide some button which leads to adding the "console=..." to the pxe boot options.

The new si monitor is also a great progress.
