Folks have had issues with Intel Pro 1000 GT cards in the past (other
models esp the MT are fine apparently) but the 3Com 3C2000-T is
troublesome as well.  I have experience with that one however and can
share a workaround with a third party driver.  I have not heard of
anyone resolving the issues with the Intel Pro 1000 GT, they appear to
have problems network booting.

How far did you get into the cluster install before giving up on the
cards?  Did you try the boot CD?  I had some success cloning images
with the boot CD with the 3c2000-T.  Etherboot
(http://etherboot.sourceforge.net/) might be worth a try as well.

The workaround for the 3c2000-T involves using another manifacturers
driver for the same chipset, so you might poke around a bit for
something of that sort as well.
