First of all, let me introduce Mohsen from Seneca College in Ontario,
Canada. He and his colleagues have been working on the SuSE port for
OSCAR for the last little and have been making good progress.

> ERROR: The following RPMs cannot be installed:
> gcc-g77-3.3.5-5.i586.rpm: requires gcc = 3.3.5-5 (UNKNOWN)
> lam-oscar-7.0.6-3.i386.rpm: requires libaio.so.1.0.0 (UNKNOWN)
> pvm-modules-oscar-3.4.5+4-1.x86_64.rpm: requires pvm =
> 3.4.5+4 (UNKNOWN)

Regarding the above error message - basically what Mike said is correct
- this step is for building the image and therefore installing the
packages on the headnode would not make any difference.

As you mention, SuSE 10.0 comes with a newer version of gcc/gcc-g77 - so
I wonder why version 3.3.5 was needed? (I take it you put it in the
missing-rpms for a reason?) We need to identify what RPM is depending
on this particular version and figure out how to fix this issue. Try
turning on debug and see if it gives you more info:

export DEBUG_UPDATE_RPMS=y

At the same time, in the latest trunk, Erich has replaced (I think)
update-rpms with yum, so perhaps you should just bring your code to the
latest SVN revision and start from there...

Regarding lam-oscar - I'm not sure if SuSE provides "libaio", if not,
then you will need to rebuild the lam-oscar RPM such that it does not
require it - I suppose you are just using RPMs from Fedora or RedHat
(they both provide libaio). Mandriva's RPMs, on the other hand, do not
require libaio.

Not sure why you are installing the x86_64 RPM for pvm-modules-oscar -
aren't you on x86?

Cheers,

Bernard
