Subject: SVN outage: Mar 2-3, 2006
Hi,
The OSCAR subversion repository is being moved to a new, much faster and higher capacity server (this is a required step before we can install Trac -- more information will be coming about that in the next few weeks). This means that there will be an outage while all the data is transferred. Unfortunately, the current repository is so large, and the current server is so old and slow that the transfer will take quite a long time:
Down: Thursday, March 2, 2006 4pm Eastern
Back up: Friday, March 3, 2006 4pm Eastern
No subversion activity (check out, commit, update, and so on) will work during this time.
Once the migration has completed, we will send a message to the list telling everyone that it is back open for business.
Note that the repository URL will not change, nor will its SSL certificate -- hence, if you have existing OSCAR subversion checkouts, they should work just fine after the server move.
All those with subversion commit access will receive an e-mail with instructions on how to get an account on the new server. You are strongly encouraged to choose the same username that you had on the old server so that your existing checkouts can still be used. You're certainly free to choose another username on the new server, but be aware that if you do, you will definitely have to get a new OSCAR checkout with your new username once the repository is opened again on Friday.
