You can change the behavior of the sidebar so that it pulls from a
different file than "sidebar" by changing the file $masterfile points
to in ~/lib/tpl/sidebar/sidebar.php.

If we want to do that, which we can, we'll have to play around a bit
to get something that looks nice in both places.  I will also limit
the ability to put text on the index page, as anything that goes on
the index would go on the sidebar as well.

As I said, there are a couple other sidebar plugins and templates that
work in similar fashions.  Perhaps one of them has the flexibility
that bernard wants.
