Thanks. I installed the beta. Worked fine. The previous problem was mostly that I was associating old documentation with the new version (using three tarballs instead of two,etc.).
I ended up using the README document in the beta location with two packages (didn't need to download the core package). The install guide for 5.1 beta does not follow the same method.
