Hi all,

Jean and I had no feedback from the community, therefore we will start to work
on our vision of the solution. So please, if you have a specific point of view
on the subject, feel free to contact us.
We will submit a document describing what we would like to do to the community
by June-15.

Regards,

Objet: [Oscar-devel] OSCAR repositories - need to know the community point of
view

Hi all,

OPKGC, the OSCAR package compiler, is an important step for the development of
the OSCAR project. This "compiler" allows us to manipulate OSCAR packages
(OPKGs) via binary packages, taking a full benefit of the different binary
package management tools (apt, yum and so on). It is therefore easier to
maintain, install and remove OPKGs.

The next step for the usage of such binary package to handle OPKGs is to setup
online repositories. This enables two major capabilities:
- no need to check binary packages in SVN, SVN related action will become much
more faster (no need to check-out GB of data),
- easy installation of OSCAR: just point your favorite binary package management
tool to the OSCAR good repository and everything is available.

Unfortunately, since we try to support different Linux distributions, there is
no perfect solution to setup such repositories. This is where we need the
feedback from the community. Therefore, Jean and I worked on a small document
that describes the situation and the different solutions. The document is not
perfect and is just there to generate discussions.

Jean and I have a preferred solution but again, tell us your point of view, you
will accept what the community decides (the important point is to have an
acceptable solution for the next few years and do the implementation ASAP). So
please, speak up ASAP, we would like to take a decision by June-15.

Regards,
