Your patch created errors from an obvious reason:
perl lib/OSCAR/Network.pm
Global symbol "$c" requires explicit package name at lib/OSCAR/Network.pm line 
240.
Global symbol "$d" requires explicit package name at lib/OSCAR/Network.pm line 
240.
Execution of lib/OSCAR/Network.pm aborted due to compilation errors.

However, i revisited your patch and this is now in (r9142).
