Virtual box runs on a single computer, Oscar is an group of one or more
computer.

You can start multiple vurtual box instances on a single computer to simulate
several nodes. That's what I'm doing when testing oscar releases; I4m using
multiple virtual machines to simulate a head and a node.

Olivier.

Objet : [Oscar-devel] Does OSCAR support Virtual box??

Thanks Olivier,

It seems Beowulf cluster is built for the purpose of speed & computational
power, so it is bound to reduce computational time.

I have one more question- Can I install a virtual box on OSCAR cluster?

Hi Sachim,

OSCAR is a Beowulf cluster management software suite. nothing more. By
understanding Beowulft type cluster you will be able to get the answer to your
question.

Wikipedia Beowulft cluster page states:
Provisioning of operating systems and other software for a Beowulf Cluster can
be automated using software, Open Source Cluster Application
Resources<http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Open_Source_Cluster_Application_Resources>
(OSCAR) for example. OSCAR installs on top of a standard installation of a
supported Linux distribution on a cluster's head node.

Definition of a beowulf cluster
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Beowulf_cluster

A good reading can be found here:
http://etutorials.org/Linux+systems/cluster+computing+with+linux/Chapter+1+So+You+Want+to+Use+a+Cluster/

Regards,

Olivier.
