Hello - We have been attempting to install the RH7.2 based cluster distribution, and are coming up with a few issues we were hoping someone could shed some light on. The main problem seems to be an incompatibility between the SMP kernel and the cards we are using. The boxes we are using (Shuttle SS40s) have the Realtek cards installed - these work fine for the PXE network install, but after the we boot to the SMP kernel on the hard drive, the cards stop working (no packets go out, ifconfig looks good). The cards work just fine with the regular kernel on the same network.
Has anyone else experienced hardware incompatibilities with the SMP kernel in the same distribution, and if so, how did you go about resolving them? Is it possible (and smarter) to compile a kernel that does work and then use this in the OSCAR install, or should I attempt to compile a driver that will work and somehow include this in the image that is sent to the nodes? Any thoughts, suggestions, or strategies would be appreciated, as we would like to use these built-in cards for this cluster. Thanks in advance, John ------------------------------------ John A.
