This is more of a general kernel question, only releated to Oscar as I'm
having this problem on our head node.
Situation:
I am trying to add a Sun A5200 drive array (22x18.2GB drives) connected
with a Qlogic ISP 2100 card. The stock RH 2.4.7-10smp kernel supports
this hardware, but the md driver only supports disk sets of 12 disks. I
want to be able to use all of the disks in a single volume, /home. To
do this I need to move to kernel 2.4.16 or greater.
My server is configured thusly:
Dual Athlon 1900+ MP with 3GB of RAM, 3 18GB scsi drives on a Mylex 170
RAID controller, mirrored. / is on the RAID, specifically
/dev/rd/c0d0p3. /boot is on /dev/rdc0d0p2.
Problem:
When I try to boot the new kernel, I can't mount the root device. This
happens whether or not I'm using initrd. The modules for the scsi
drivers all load correctly, but it still can't mount /. I get various
error messages, but nothing conclusive. When I'm using initrd I get
"error 6 mounting ext3" from pivot_root.
Has anybody else run into this? I can't seem to find a solution out there.
