[Oscar-users] problem with pvm

sir
i have a problem running pvm on my OSCAR cluster outside PBS. i added the following lines to the .basrch file as per the faq's on your site.

export PVM_RSH=/usr/bin/ssh
if test "$PVM_ROOT"=""; then
export PVM_ROOT=/opt/pvm3
export PVM_ARCH='$PVM_ROOT/lib/pvmgetarch'
export PATH=$PATH:$PVM_ROOT/lib
export PATH=$PATH:$PVM_ROOT/lib/$PVM_ARCH
export PATH=$PATH:$PVM_ROOT/bin/$PVM_ARCH
fi
but when i try to run pvm from the shell i get the following error
"pvm:/opt/pvm3/lib/$PVM_ROOT/lib/pvmgetarch/pvm dosent exist.
make sure pvm is built and PVM_ROOT is set correctly."
what do the lines i added actually mean ?
what do i do now, please help me.
