Maybe one of the nodes is down and pbs didn't know about it? There are times when your hard drive on one of the nodes is not working, oscar didn't know about it because you can still ping the "semi-dead" node. You can still log in to the node, but when you issue any command require I/O, you then get error. Try to log in to each node manually and issue some sort of command to make sure all the nodes are up.
