I apologize if this is off topic, but since I know people here are running
Beowulf cluster, I'm wondering if anyone can help.

We've been having major headache trying to get Fortran compiler that is
compatible with Redhat 9 and GCC 3.2, glibc 2.3 to build MPICH that has C,
C++, Fortran interface. It needs to be RH 8 compatible because that's the
base OS supported by OSCAR. Unfortunately, AFAIK, MPICH that comes with OSCAR
does not have Fortran interface, that's why we try to compile it ourself.

We've tried some compiler and still have problem.
1. Intel's Fortran + C compiler
Works in general, but there is a bug in the Fortran compiler that some code
will triger "Internal Compiler Error". I don't know if this is because of the
OS environment not compatible, or what, but I've tried this on RH 7.x and 9
with the same problem. So this rule Intel's out although I've tried all
versions of their compiler I can get my hands on.

2. Lahey/Fujitso Fortran + GNU C Compiler 3.2
Have problem with linking for Fortran MPI programs. Somehow the MPI functions
for fortran interface was compiled with different name, eg PMPI_COMM_WORLD
instead of MPI_COMM_WORLD. As far as I can gather, this sometimes happen when
the vendors for Fortran & C compilers are different. I'm not sure I want to
try to find hack to make this work. Lahey does not have C compiler.

So, basically my question, what are you using as Fortran compiler that is
compatible with GCC 3.x, glibc 2.3, and can build MPICH without problems? We
don't mind buying commercial one, if it really works. Surely someone has done
this.

Thanks a lot for any help. Again, I apologize because this is off topic. But I
don't know where else to ask.
