OSCAR could be a perfectly good solution for a renderfarm because it has shared storage space for all of the nodes, it allows the nodes to easily communicate with each other, and there is a well-designed management system (C3) that makes administering the nodes fairly easy (shared users, passwords, ability to push files to multiple nodes and to remotely execute commands).

It depends on how your animation system farms out the jobs. Does it use a client-server model, does it generate individual batch jobs, or does it do something else? Which system are you using to break up the rendering?
