OK, so you've got the cyclades hooked up and configured correctly, and you have a real serial console on the system. What system is this? By "during PXE boot", do you mean the progress stuffo (TM, T.Naughton) as it's downloading the kernel and initrd? That should have come along with the BIOS messages. As for the SIS part, it too should have come along with the BIOS messages, assuming the BIOS considers the system to have a serial console. Check the BIOS for console redirection, perhaps it allows a split between BIOS control and OS control. Do you have a display adapter in the system? If so, you may need a "console=ttyS0" on your SIS kernel command line. I've never had a display adapter when I used a serial console, and the serial line was always active as the console. The one part that you need to do on the Linux side is to start mingetty on the serial consoles (see /etc/inittab) so you can talk to the box once it's up. Without this, the console's an output device, with the exception of the <Alt-SysRQ> stuffo -- there are serial console equivalents to that too, IIRC, you signal the kernel with a break, then type the letter. I'll check some of my notes tonight at home to see if I missed anything... -- David N.
